At Lano Carpets we are committed to the environment and customer satisfaction, both of which play an integral part
to the success and running of our business.
Fundamentally, all relevant environmental, occupational and health and safety legislations, alongside all other laws and regulations, are complied with at Lano Carpets.
Carrying out all manufacturing at a single site, we can carefully monitor every aspect of the production process, minimising environmental impact wherever possible. This single European location also allows us to carefully monitor the raw resources we use. This assurance allows customers to buy our products knowing they are produced ethically.
We are in a process of becoming one of the first Belgian carpet companies to be accredited with the ISO14001 environmental management certificate. Lano has implemented management systems that comply with ISO 9001-2000.
This is part of our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment.
Furthermore, we also place major focus on developing responsibilities and promoting individual ownership among all our employees, both of which ensure the health and safety of themselves and others.
Living by the actual environmental mantra of the three R’s ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, we have focused our efforts
on REDUCING
Over the last five years, we have developed many state of the art initiatives, with positive results that speak for themselves:
- The total energy required to produce one square metre of carpet has been reduced significantly. This reduction is a result of the implementation low energy lighting, heat recovery systems, new weaving and dying technology and many other innovative practices.
- The conversion to smart creel weaving technology and other manufacturing advancements within the company has resulted in a very substantial reduction in yarn waste.
- The majority of the components that make up a Lano axminster carpet are rapidly renewable resources such as wool.
This factor, coupled with the ongoing improvements made to production efficiencies, reduces our negative impact on the earth’s resources and has resulted in many positive, tangible results for the environment.
Such developments have impacted positively on the overall energy consumption of our manufacturing plant but our efforts do not stop there.
We have assigned a dedicated onsite team of environmental engineers whose primary remit is to continually review and analyse energy consumption and waste to ensure further reduction. This process is a long-term commitment and we will continue to invest and look for other ways to reduce our impact on the environment.
Accordingly, Lano will conduct its activities in line with the following principles:
- To source raw materials that complies with the environmental philosophy
- To initiate best practice in the manufacturing chain
- To reduce emissions during the process of manufacturing
- To comply with all applicable legal regulations in any location
- To continuously improve the environmental performance in all areas
- To minimise energy wastage through efficient use of resources
- To minimise waste generation from all sources
- To recycle as much production waste as possible
- To dispose of all waste by legal, safe and secure methods
- To improve the lifecycle of manufactured products through quality
- To develop constructive relationships with all regulatory authorities
- To contribute to all activities that encourage sustainability in the community
- To ensure that all employees are informed on relevant issues
carpets AND ESPECIALLY WOOL CARPETS are environmental Friendly
The inherent benefits of carpets are many fold and many of these offer significant benefits to environmental influences.
Hardwearing: Wool and woolrich carpets are extremely hard wearing. Well constructed products, such as those from the Lano stable, ensure that carpets wear well, keep their good looks longer and are easier to maintain. The result is a longer lifecycle so the carpet needs less frequent replacement and hence uses less raw materials, creates less waste and is better for the environment.
Acoustics: Carpets not only absorb airborne noise but they also reduce impact noise at the source. The heavier the carpet the better impact they have on sound insulation
Thermal insulation: The superior thermal insulation properties offered by wool carpets result in the burning of less raw materials to maintain the comfort of the occupants of the building. Wool and wool rich carpets increase the sense of comfort as it reduces heat loss from the body to the floor by radiation and by contact with the feet. Wool is also an excellent thermal insulator. Important energy saving have been recorded in practical situations. Over the life of a carpet, this can make a dramatic contribution to energy saving.
Safety: The contribution of carpet to safety in the home and commercial interior has been well documented in terms of slipping, falls and fire. Wool is recognised as the safest fibre in terms of flammability and smoke emissions.
Health: The positive impact wool has on the indoor environment is well researched and proven. Wool carpets remove common air contaminates such as formaldehyde, nitrogen and sulphur dioxide. Wool rich carpeting will also exert an important buffering effect on the humidity within a building, absorbing and releasing moisture to maintain a more constant and comfortable atmosphere.
SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING
Our green agenda is an integral part of our operations. With initiatives aimed at reusing and recycling our products being continually researched, our
commitment to environmental conservation is resolute. Having set the
standard for first-class manufacturing with a ‘right first time’ ethos through each stage of the process, Lano Carpets’ progressive thinking is setting an industry standard for sustainable manufacturing.
